John Hopkins Supports Use of NEV-100
The NEV-100 can be helpful to people with ALS too if it is used in conjunction with another kind of respirator(preferrably negative pressure or non invasive positive pressure).

Mr. Dano Carbone,
Thank you so much for helping to provide a NEV-100 loaner to a home care patient of ours. This patient is extremely grateful you have been able to be a resource so that he may continue his care plan at home in the same way he has for years with success. This patient is a 47 year old Muscular Dystrophy patient who has been continuously ventilated and non trached for years. He utilizes a non vented PAP mask as well as the NEV-100 negative pressure ventilator and has been able to maintain a healthy and active life. Pressure sores from continuous mask use is always a risk for him and he is a challenge for a mask that fits and maintains an adequate seal. When his NEV-100 displayed "service required" alarms and stopped functioning, his day to day routine was disrupted. As you are aware the NEV-100 is identified as no longer being serviced or repaired but with an extended search we were lucky enough to come in contact with you. Your help in providing a loaner NEV-100 and accepting the patients "service required" NEV-100 to be evaluated for repair has been a blessing to him.
This patient’s primary insurance carrier does not recognize a difference for positive and negative pressure ventilation and therefore does not cover for use. We are hopeful his machine can be repaired with minor service and he can continue care in the home in a way that will continue to provide him with every opportunity of a healthy lifestyle.
Again, much appreciation for all you have done,
Linda Kincaid, RRT, JHHCG
